Rumors~Starting Pitchers

There are rumors that the Rakuten Golden Eagles are looking for some starting pitchers, and put the guys that can only last about 5 innings in the long relief spot. There are two young 20 year olds that have been looking to be drafted for about 3 years. They were both in the Koshien Playoffs in 2008 and 2009. Lets see if they will be drafted.

Eagles Draft 19 Year Old

Today the Eagles picked up maybe the best sidearm pitcher I have ever seen. He throws 158 km/h, and has a great Drop Curve-ball. He hoped he would be drafted in '08, but nobody noticed him, so he would just wait. The time has come. Lets see how he does.

everyone's surprise was pitching today (Pitched day before giving up two runs in eight innings of work [Loss]), pitched a good 7 1/3 innings.
He had the shut-out going into the seventh, but gave up a couple hits, making in 8-2. Speir then came in for 1 2/3 innings of work, and shut
them down. 8-2 the final.

This was basically a pitcher's duel. Both pitchers came to fight, and they put up a well fought fight. The Hawks struck first, and made it 1-0 in the first inning. It was off of a walk with the bases loaded.

The Hawks came around again in the seventh off of an RBI single by Kawasaki. No more damage was done that inning.

The Eagles finally came out to play in the 8th. First Shima walked to first on a bases on balls. With one out Hijirisara got a single to make it men on first and second. Kaz Matsui then got a hit to make the bases loaded, one out with Iwamura coming up. Iwamura started out not so great getting down 0-2 by fouling two off. Then he got back to playing baseball, and got the count to 2-2. Then he got one RIGHT DOWN THE MIDDLE, and smacked it through second and first making it 2-2 tie ball game.

Rakuten Golden Eagles~Turning it Around - Page 2 3447809-tv-style-pitch-tracking-graphic-of-an-at-bat-with-5-pitches--a-strikeout-pitch-down-the-middle-of-ho

Then the game went into extras. The pitchers were good getting the game into the 11th without giving up a single hit. Then in the top of the 11th Hosokawa got the go-ahead RBI making it 3-2 Hawks the final.

The Eagles struck again in the bottom of the 8th, scoring by a Yamasaki HR making it 3-2 Eagles. Speir just couldn't take the heat, and gave up the tying RBI to the Lions. The Lions then got a go-ahead hit up the middle in the 10th off of Aoyama to win it 4-3.

Today was a well fought game that went down to the wire. In the final inning, the Eagles scored 2 runs and got the bases loaded. Uchimura then hit a deep fly ball, and the man on third tried to score but got thrown down trying to tag.

I don't know if the Eagles fans like pitching duels, but they sure do get a lot of them. Shiomi pitched a great eight innings, and Rasner came in to get the save. The only spark of offense came in the fifth inning. Uchimura got an RBI single up the middle.

May in Review

I didn't think that the Eagles could do any worse than last month, but they did exactly that. They finished the month going 8-15-1 remaining in 5th Place. That added on to their total record which is 20-34-2. That would make the team's winning percentage .370. T. Hoshi who we thought would be dominating by now, is doing OK, but doesn't get run support. That explains his seven losses with a 3.45 ERA (which is a good ERA). Tomura is doing OK. He leads the team in batting average which is NOT good, because his batting average is only .273. That explains how bad this team really is...

This game was the exact opposite of what Eagles are used to. They are used to pitcher duels, can't buy runs, etc. Today they got a scoring show. There were people scoring every time you opened your eyes from blinking. The Eagles struck first scoring 4 in the first inning. They scored again in the third to make it five to nothing. The Hawks started to swing their bats in the fifth inning scoring six to make it six to five Hawks. In the bottom of that inning the Eagles put on two, to make it seven to six them. In the seventh the Hawks tied it off of a homer by Kokubo. In the bottom of the inning, the Eagles scored three to make it 10-7 Eagles. Rasner came in to get the save, and gave up another run, but still got the save. 10-8 the final.

June in Review

This month was FANTASTIC. It looks like the Eagles have finally came to play some baseball. They have reamained in fifth place, but that is only because of their two terrible months...*coughAprilandMaycough*. Their record for the month was 14-4-0. Amazing! Their overall record is still under .500, but they are getting there. It is now 34-38-2. That is a .472 winning percentage. Lets hope they can get above .500, and maybe get to 4th place in July.

Hmmm...another pitchers duel. Each team scored one in the first, and that was it until the ninth, when Gotoh got a go-ahead hit to right field. Of course that was after an error by Matsui.
